And some
honest admissions:
|
The weather in the Highlands is often unpredicatable and changeable -
you need to be prepared for anything (T shirt one moment, thick jumper
the next). It's also usually cooler than in it is south of the Border
(which can be an advantage in high summer). However, the changing light
on the hills and lochs enhances the viewing pleasure. |
|
Midges
: a visit anywhere in the Highlands between the May and September runs
the risk of an encounter with these wee beasties. Generally insignificant
unless the conditions favour them (overcast, damp, still, warm). More
active at the beginning and end of the day (they don't like direct sunlight).
For most people, a midge bite is no more than a very temporary mild
irritant. Come prepared with insect repellent and anti-histamine cream.
See the book "Midges in Scotland" by George Hendry (in the
Cairncroft library).
